About This Wine
The Sangreal vineyard was planted in 1994 and sits on a north-facing slope. The soil is a mix of bluestone and limestone with red ironstone on the surface, differing from the estateās other vineyards, which are mainly black volcanic soil. The vine rows run northāsouth, receiving full sun throughout the day. Clones 114 and 115ābelieved to have mutated over time within this micro-siteāare used exclusively for Sangreal. This is always the first vineyard harvested each season.
Winemaking follows a consistent approach every year:
70% whole bunch
Fermented in a five-tonne oak barrel with open-top fermenter
Four-day cold soak
Natural fermentation lasting 7ā9 days
Pressed when the cap falls
Aged in 70% new oak
Racked once after malolactic fermentation
Bottled unfined and unfiltered
Total Ʃlevage: 18 months
Producer Tasting Notes
