About This Wine

Musigny sits on a chalky terrace overlooking Clos Vougeot, positioned between the combes of Chambolle and Orveaux. The Drouhin estate farms 0.67 hectares, with vines averaging 33 years of age. The site has a mild incline, eastern exposure and brown chalky soils with scattered pebbles. Harvesting is done by hand in small open crates to preserve fruit integrity, followed by sorting in both vineyard and winery. Vinification lasts two to three weeks with indigenous yeasts and carefully controlled extraction through pigeage and remontage. Ageing occurs in French oak barrels, 20% new, for 14 to 18 months.

About the Winery

Joseph Drouhin was founded in 1880 and expanded significantly under Maurice Drouhin, who later served on the INAO committee and as deputy administrator of the Hospices de Beaune. The estate is now run by the fourth generation—FrĂ©dĂ©ric, Laurent, Philippe and VĂ©ronique—with Philippe managing biodynamic vineyards. Since 2009 the full range has been ECOCERT certified organic. Vineyard operations include hand harvesting, indigenous yeast fermentations, and meticulous barrel ageing with strict control of wood weathering over three years.

Producer Tasting Notes

"Musigny is remarkable for its great purity of colour. The aromas are reminiscent of violet and fruit stone when the wine is young. After eight to ten years, these aromas become very refined and complex: fallen leaves, damp earth, moss and hints of fur or leather. The tasting sensations are incomparable in terms of finesse and harmony. The tannins are elegant, although very much alive. Silk and velvet match the liveliness of the acidity. The lingering aftertaste is dominated by hints of rare, exotic woods as well as candied cherry".
