About This Wine
This Pinot Noir comes from La Colombière in Vosne-Romanée and is produced using barrel fermentation. The wine is unfiltered and unfined, with ageing carried out in oak.
About the Winery
Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair was founded in 2000 by Louis-Michel Liger-Belair, continuing more than 200 years of family tradition in Vosne-Romanée. Although the domaine is relatively young, the Liger-Belair family has been connected to the village since 1815.
Louis Liger-Belair, a general in Napoleon’s army, acquired significant vineyard holdings during the post-Revolution state sell-off, including Château de Vosne-Romanée. Over the 19th century, the family owned land in La Romanée, La Tâche, Clos de Vougeot, Chambertin and several premier crus.
Many parcels were sold in 1933 under Napoleonic inheritance laws. Remaining plots were cultivated by local growers until Louis-Michel Liger-Belair resumed control in 2000, rebuilding the domaine’s vineyard base in Vosne-Romanée and Nuits-Saint-Georges.
The domaine practices biodynamic viticulture, with parcels plowed by horse. Grapes are hand harvested and sorted before destemming in whole or in part. Fermentation begins naturally after a cold soak, followed by gentle extraction through pumping over and occasional punching down.
Ageing is carried out in new barrels from several coopers and forest origins. Wines remain in barrel without racking, with malolactic fermentation occurring naturally. They are later moved into tank, sulphured, and bottled without fining or filtration.
Today the domaine produces wines from grand and premier cru vineyards across Vosne-Romanée and Nuits-Saint-Georges, with La Romanée as its flagship monopole.
